What I'm Reading - The Murder House By James Patterson and David Ellis

A large house, an ocean view and a mystery that leaves an entire town reeling.

After some troubles with the NYPD, Jenna Murphy retreats to a small seaside town called Bridgehampton. She takes up a job as a detective, an offer extended by her uncle and chief of the Southhampton Town Police Department, Langdon James. Jenna Murphy has visited this area multiple times as a child and finds herself having a strange connection to one property called ‘the Murder House’. On her first case a local carpenter and handyman is arrested on a double charge of murder. Jenna believes that the case is far too simple and with some digging more murders and suspicious characters arise, all leading back to Number 7 Ocean Drive. Perhaps Noah is being used as a scapegoat to mask something more sinister?

Jenna is determined to find the killer no matter what the cost. The stakes are raised when her own uncle is brutally murdered. Is there a madman murderer on the loose or is Noah Walker responsible for it all?

This was my first time reading any of James Patterson’s work. I was aware of the Alex Cross series, so I decided to give this one a try and it did not disappoint. I could not have predicted who the killer was in the end, but I had fun trying to piece the puzzle together throughout the novel. I enjoyed the short chapters and quick pace of the novel so much so that I could hardly put it down. Before purchasing the Murder House I was in a reading slump. But I’m glad to say that it gave me the kick-start that I needed and resulted in me purchasing three more James Patterson titles (Invisible, 4th of July and The Dolls) as well as becoming a life-long James Patterson fan.
